About Calorie Calculator

The Calorie Calculator estimates how many calories you burn per day (TDEE — total daily energy expenditure) from your sex, age, height, weight and activity level, using the Mifflin–St Jeor equation that most dietitians consider the best general-purpose BMR formula.

Along with your maintenance calories it shows daily targets for mild and standard weight loss (−250 and −500 kcal) and for gaining (+250 and +500 kcal) — roughly a quarter and half kilogram per week respectively.

Metric and imperial units are both supported. Results are estimates for healthy adults; talk to a professional before making major changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between BMR and TDEE?

BMR is the energy your body burns at complete rest. TDEE multiplies BMR by an activity factor to include daily movement and exercise — it's the number to eat at to maintain weight.

Why a 500-calorie deficit for weight loss?

A pound of body fat stores roughly 3,500 kcal, so a 500 kcal daily deficit averages about 0.5 kg (1 lb) of loss per week — widely considered a sustainable pace.
